The 123rd Sandwich Fair is this weekend…September 8 – 12, 2010
County fairs have become a thing of the past in some areas, but here in the heart of Starved Rock Country…
We love it!
The Sandwich Fair is the oldest continuing county fair in the state of Illinois and is one of the largest antique fairs in the United States, drawing daily crowds of more than 100,000, with the top attendance days reaching more than 200,000 fair-goers which isn’t bad for a town that has less than 10,000 residents.
This county favorite is such a big event several schools in the area take educational trips to the fair and some even schedule a day off of school in response to the annual drop in attendance during the fair
If you have never attended this county fair or it has been since you were a child, you should come for a visit this weekend.
Sandwich is about a 30 minute trip from Heritage Harbor Ottawa and is a favorite amongst the residents of Starved Rock Country.
This family oriented event is one you shouldn’t miss and one you will always remember so bring the kids and make a day of it.
